I had no idea that Madam Vice-President had written a children’s book! I stumbled upon it by happenstance at our local library. I immediately checked it out and insisted it was going to be our next read aloud book.
My oldest daughter is at an age when superheroes are fascinating. I enjoyed that the book chose to focus on everyday people and characteristics that she can display even at her young age. I also enjoyed showing my children, a Black and Indian woman from Oakland with many different jobs including current Vice President of the United States.
The book was a little long but used simple language and included many open ended questions. I used the prompts to open discussion around things like being kind, working together, and helping others.
The book ends with a hero code that lists wonderful affirmations to encourage and stimulate warmth and character.
